Can I practice Bikram Yoga during pregnancy?
Please consult with your doctor before practicing Bikram Yoga during pregnancy and follow their advice. Your health and the health of your baby are of the utmost importance. For a first time pregnancy, it’s best to avoid any new form of exercise.
Many Bikram Teachers and regular students do continue to practice throughout their pregnancy following Rajashree’s Pregnancy Class and find it to be beneficial to their own health as well as the health of their baby. The pregnancy postures can be done in a regular Bikram class or at home using your own discretion. Always tell the teacher before class that you are pregnant. Ask the teacher where the coolest spots in the room are and put you mat there. Bring a thermometer so you can check your temperature during class and always take a break or leave the room if needed.
Please visit the official Bikram website for more information on practicing during pregnancy and to purchase Rajashree’s Pregnancy Yoga DVD.
